Call to Order
- The
Music Boosters meeting was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by Cindy Lewis.
Treasurer’s Report
- Debbie
Ruark distributed an up-to-date copy of the budget.
Music Director’s Report
- Mr. Askew
would like to host three marching band shows next fall; Sep 29,
Oct 20, and Nov 3. The Oct 20th
event would be a USSBA hosted show. He will check with USSBA to see if we can
receive a percentage of the admission money for having the show at Century. Jim
Kelley voiced concerns regarding “degeneration of volunteer availability” with
three shows at Century.
- Mr.
Askew would also like the Music Boosters to begin planning the 2nd
Annual Pops Concert for late
January 2008. Promotions for the concert should begin in late August 2007.
A volunteer to head up this effort is needed.
- The
2007-2008 Operational Budget is being drawn up and will be presented to
the executive board in the near future.
Choral Director’s Report
- Allison
Holiday was introduced as the new Choral Director.
Ways and Means Committee

Mention Century HS Music Program
and a percentage of the total order is given to Century Music Boosters.
This applies to dine-in and carry-out orders. Notice will be given if a
date changes.
- Multiple
fundraising brochures were brought to the meeting by several people and
given to Suzanne for review.
- Suggestions
for future fundraising efforts included: a raffle for an iPod, laptop
computer, television, or a packet of high dollar gift cards with tickets
being sold by the students at school during lunch mods. Nancy Thompson
presented the idea of a fundraising letter that has proven very successful
for other organizations she has worked with. She will send a sample letter
to Mr. Askew for review. Watch for details. Jim Kelley presented the idea
of a “mega-raffle” where a long-term raffle is held for a large item;
i.e., a car. He also mentioned an idea to sell donated items on ebay as an
on-going fundraiser.
Music Program Spring Trip
- Nancy reported that
there are currently 103 students signed up for the spring trip. The
maximum number is set at 150. Mr. Askew is in the process of selecting
chaperones. Information regarding which musical each student would like to
attend will be coming home soon. The choices are Phantom of the Opera,
Mama Mia, and Lion King. As the instruments will be transported on the
buses, packing blankets are needed. If you have a padded packing blanket
that can be borrowed for the trip please contact Nancy Thompson or Mr.
Askew.
- On
March 5th, there will be a parents meeting in the cafeteria to
discuss trip details.
Music Booster Webmaster
