CHS Music Boosters Meeting Minutes

February 7, 2008

Call to Order

  • The Music Boosters meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Tony Caracciolo.

 

Secretary’s Report

  • A summary of last month’s minutes was presented by Susan S. The minutes are available at www.knightsmusic.org. A motion to accept the minutes for the January meeting was made by Deb Ruark and seconded by Derrick Askew.

 

Treasurer’s Report

  • Debbie Ruark presented the budget. The KIDA indoor show is looking at approximately a $2,200 profit. The choral director requested $100 for a choral trip deposit. Tony C. will clarify a few details with Heather C. prior to approval.  There is a balance of $1,000 owed to the indoor instructors which will be paid in the near future. As the new Executive Board will take office on March 1, 2008, the bank records will be updated to reflect the new treasurers (Scott Stewart and Michelle Harrod). The budget was motioned to be approved by Nancy Thompson and seconded by Derrick Askew.

 

Music Booster’s Financial Audit

Tony will contact McDaniel College and/or Carroll County Community College to see if there are any seniors in the financial field interested in performing a general type audit before the books are handed over to the new treasurers. Additionally, Marty M. will check with someone he knows who performs audits at St. Joe’s to see if there is any interest in performing an audit for the music boosters.

 

Ways and Means Committee

  • Tiny Trotters Basketball Game.  Tentatively scheduled for March 29th. Tony is working out the details.
  • Vera Bradley Bingo. May 3rd. John Bushey and Nancy Thompson were asked to check with the three liaisons to start planning for this event.
  • Guitar Hero Competition. John Bushey is working on the details for a possible competition in April. He will have more information by our next meeting.
  • Yankee Candles. Judy Bushey will have flyers to pass out near the end of February. The fundraiser begins on March 3rd with orders due by March 17th.
  • Patron Ads for Spring Concerts. Nancy Thompson suggested selling patron ads to go in the spring concert programs. She is checking on that possibility. Rob Holt has offered to print the programs.
  • GL Scrip card program. POC for ordering cards from the company is Suzanne Reamer. POC for purchasing cards is Judy Bushey. A list of all participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com.
  • Visitourmall.com. Please checkout “visitourmall.com” for convenient online shopping. A percentage of every purchase made through this website is deposited into the Music Boosters account. Simply go to “visitourmall.com”, click “Find Group”, scroll to and click on “Century High School Music Boosters”, and start shopping! Or visit the mall through the Century Knights home webpage at knightsmusic.org.
  • GoodSearch.com. This is a Yahoo-based search engine and earns the music boosters .01 for every valid search. Click on “Century High School Music Boosters (Sykesville, MD)” to designate CHS as the organization to receive credit.
  • Banners. Marty M. presented an information page outlining ideas with regards to banner sales. Anyone interested please watch for more information regarding banner sales. A chairperson and committee will be formed shortly. Prior to contacting any company, please verify with Debbie Prince, Main Office Secretary at Century, whether or not the business has already been contacted.

 

Music Director’s Report/Choral Director’s Report   

  • Derrick is planning a Pops Concert tentatively for May 10th.
  • PDP Fundraising Letters will be underway in the near future.
  • Derrick expressed his thankfulness and appreciation for the boosters’ organization.
  • Rob M. suggested Century host the TOB Chapters show on November 1st in addition to the Knight of Reckoning show (date not determined). He will submit an application for the USSBA Marine Corp Invitational at the Naval Academy in Annapolis on November 8th and the USSBA National Championships at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore (tentatively scheduled for November 14th or 15th). He is looking at hosting USSBA MD and DE States at Cal Ripkin Stadium; however, nothing has been agreed to at this time. He will keep us informed.

 

  • Choral Director, Heather Caporaso was unable to be at the meeting as she is attending classes on Thursday nights.

Choral - Dawn A. – March 28th - All County Choral Concert at Westminster High School.

Band/Orchestra – Marty M./Jennifer W. – Nothing to report.

Marching Band – Jim K. – All of the volunteers did a great job at the indoor show.

 

Next Meeting

  • The next Music Boosters meeting will be on March 6th at 7:30 p.m. The Executive Board will meet at 6:30 p.m.

  • Debbie Ruark motioned to adjourn at 9:00 p.m. and Michelle Harrod seconded.
