CHS Music Boosters Meeting Minutes

Call to Order
- The Music
Boosters meeting was called to order at 7:30p.m. by
Tony Caracciolo.
Secretary’s Report
- Sharron
Antolick was not present at the meeting so no meeting minutes from Dec
2008
- John
Bushey was nominated to take meeting minutes for January 2008 meeting
Treasurer’s Report
Scott Stewart presented the budget. The original budget
projects are continually being updated to accommodate the year’s actual
expenditures.
- Money
is still due from the USSBA show on October 2008, Jim Kelley will continue
to follow up with USSBA on this matter
- Income
for past month mostly from Scrip sales at the holiday and clothing sales
at holiday music shows
- Income
appears ahead of expenses for now
- Still
looking into long term investments for new uniforms and there is a deadline
of 2/28/09 for rollover of our existing CD that will need to be addressed
next month. At this point most
likely will rollover funds into existing CD because of issues with setup
of brokerage accounts
- In
December we entered into a contract with FFP for the 2009 Marching Band
show, an initial deposit was sent to FFP and the contract with FFP was
submitted to the County for management of this contract by CCPS
- Jim
Kelley motioned to approve the treasurer’s report and Judy Bushey
seconded.
Music Director’s Report/Choral Director’s Report
- Derrick
Askew was
not present at tonight’s meeting.
- Heather
Caporaso reported on the status of the Chorus
Singing Telegrams Fundraiser for Valentines Day
- Heather
is continuing to pursue with the school best time to do this activity
during the school day
- Plan
is 5 dollars a song delivered in school around Valentine's Day this price
includes a flower
- It was
reported that Derrick is looking into the possibility of a one day Music
Trip in the Spring more will follow
Ways and Means Committee
- GL Scrip card program POC is Mary
Laulis. This fundraiser seems to be
doing well. Most of the 1000
dollars of gift cards that were pre-purchased for sales at the holidays
were sold. A list of all
participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com. Mary can be
reached at mlaulis@verizon.net. The first GL Scrip order was placed and
received. Orders will be placed the last Wednesday of every month so that
cards may be distributed at the following Thursday Booster meeting. It is very easy to place an online order
and use PrestoPay (which deducts the card total
from your checking account. There is a $0.39 charge to use PrestoPay.) Otherwise, simply order online using our
code: LF7L317611982 and put a check made out to CHS Music Boosters in the
band room box for your total.
- Clothing Sales continue to look
for a person to take over responsibility for this fundraiser. Also looking into storing clothes
offsite.
- Cookbook Deadline for recipe
submission is 1/31/09 we need 100 ti0150 recipes so far we have 50 recipes
submitted. Cookbooks plan to be
delivered by Mothers Day 2009.
- Consignment Sale considered and
discussed for books and children clothes.
Sell space to vendors and provide tables in addition to sale of donated
items
- McCormick Food Testing Fundraiser was
discussed and proposed by Jim Kelley and Jim will put together flyer and
forward to Sharron Antolick
- 50 Yard Line Movie slated for future
timeframe as a recruiting strategy
- Other Movie Fundraisers considered
similar to Leo Club showing of Elf Movie in December 2008 will look into
copyright aspects of showing films
- Other ideas included a children’s
consignment sale and/or used book sale
- Visitourmall.com. Please checkout

purchase made through this website is deposited into the Music Boosters
account. Simply go to “visitourmall.com”, click “Find Group”, scroll to
and click on “Century High School Music Boosters”, and start shopping! Or
visit the mall through the Century Knights home webpage at
knightsmusic.org.
- GoodSearch.com. This is a
Yahoo-based search engine and earns the music boosters .01 for every valid
search. Click on “Century High School Music Boosters (Sykesville, MD)” to
designate CHS as the organization to receive credit. Keep on searching!
- eScrip.
By using loyalty club cards (i.e. Safeway Club Card), credit cards (i.e.,
Macy’s credit card or Macy’s Visa card), and debit cards that have been
registered with eScrip. There is a 6-step
process to register any cards you feel comfortable registering with the
program. Please register your cards at www.escrip.com.
A group ID number or name must be entered in step 1 of the registration.
Our information is: GROUP ID # 148958018
or use the group name CENTURY MUSIC
BOOSTERS INC. This is a very simple way to raise money for the CHS
music program! This fundraiser has the possibility of ongoing success but
needs to be better promoted.

Indoor Performance Ensemble
- There
was a lengthy discussion about the Indoor Performance Ensemble and lots of
confusion about the logistics and budget concerns of this new
program. Tony, John, and Jim will
follow up to find out more and clarify

We will continue to try to find
someone to fill Orchestra Liaison position and a second Vice President position
Spring Musical Concert
- Items
for use by Spring Musical Pit Band including Stools, Gaffing Tape, and
Lights for Music Stands and Batteries were presented for consideration of
funding
- Because
of the single use nature of such items Music Boosters deferred funding
this and recommended kids possibly bringing their own lights
Vice President Comments
None since he was taking notes and
did not feel like writing any longer and wanted to make it home to watch the
University of Oklahoma/University of Florida College National Championship Bowl
Game
