Lee Mitchell, the new Assistant Marching Band Director was present for tonight’s meeting. Welcome Lee!
Lee stated that he will be staying through from after school until the beginning of MB practice whenever after school practices are scheduled. He plans on conducting a study hall/mentoring for MB students during this time. He will be recruiting at SMS on Monday and will be accompanied by the student leaders of the MB. He will try to “break the stigma of MB not being cool”. A drumline will be pursued. He wants to make the MB more a part of football games and also participate in local parades.
Jazz Night and Jam Session was held May 8th. Eric Byrd was fabulous Master Jazz Instructor. The musical groups sounded great and everyone enjoyed themselves. Coffey Music is interested in sponsoring this event again. We have many coffee cups left over. Coffey will split the difference with the Boosters. Suggestions for improving this event included having a guest artist perform first, better marketing, more parental involvement, different night to attract local artists to participate,
Cookbooks were sold prior to the spring concerts. We have about 100 left. Making profit at this point.
GL Scrip card program Yielding steady profits. POC is Mary Laulis. A list of all participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com. Mary can be reached at mlaulis@verizon.net. Orders will be placed the last Wednesday of every month so that cards may be distributed at the following Thursday Booster meeting.
