CHS Music Boosters Meeting Minutes

Call to Order

  • The Music Boosters meeting was called to order at 7:30p.m. by Tony Caracciolo.

 

Secretary’s Report

  • A brief modified meeting was held last month due to low attendance therefore there were no minutes taken.

 

Treasurer’s Report

Scott Stewart presented the budget. The original budget projects are continually being updated to accommodate the year’s actual expenditures. 

 

  • A check in the amount of $8582.35 was posted as a result of the 2008USSBA home show.
  • Approximately ½ of the Indoor Performance Ensemble has not paid the $100 fee to date.  Danielle and Scott will follow up on this.
  • Our  $6K CD has matured, yielding a profit of $110.  
  • We will be investing in 3 index funds over a 3 year period with Vanguard since only Federal ID numbers are required.  This money will be used to purchase new marching band uniforms.
  • Personal property tax has been filed for our non-profit organization.  $0.
  • Bob motioned to approve the Treasurer’s report and John seconded.

 

Music Director’s Report/Choral Director’s Report

  • Derrick shared that the Spring Trip will not be scheduled this year due to issues of severe budget cuts in CCPS.  Deadline for trips this year is April 30, 2009.
  • Rob Materra will not be returning as Assistant Director next year and will be pursuing other career opportunities.  Thanks for EVERYTHING Rob.  We will miss you and best of luckJ
  • Three potential candidates are being interviewed for the Assistant Director position.
  • Derrick is requisitioning lights for the Pit.

 

Ways and Means Committee

  • Jazz Night and Jam Session is being investigated for May 8 and 9.  Mike Taldo is working with Coffey Music to coordinate this event.  Vendor demonstrations  and a PRS guitar seminars are  possibilities.  Various musical groups from Century will perform along with the Indoor Performance Ensemble.  There was discussion about asking for a $5.00 donation at the door, as well as the possibility of raffles for a guitar and $.  Sharron will pursue advertising the events once dates and times are confirmed. 
  • Cookbook  is in production  according to Judy The books will be delivered by April 1, 2009.  Each book costs $12 (with a $10 profit).
  • Candle Sales will be pursued next school year.
  • Pizza Hut Nights will resume for the Music Boosters according to Deanne
  • GL Scrip card program  Mary will reports is “slow and steady”. 

POC is Mary Laulis.   A list of all participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com. Mary                                                                          can be reached at mlaulis@verizon.net. Orders will be placed the last Wednesday of every month so that cards may be distributed at the following Thursday Booster meeting.  It is very easy to place an online order and use PrestoPay (which deducts the card total from your checking account. There is a $0.39 charge to use PrestoPay.) Otherwise, simply order online using our code: LF7L317611982 and put a check made out to CHS Music Boosters in the band room box for your total.

  • Clothing Sales will now be headed by Christine Fallon and clothing will be stored off-site.
  •  50 Yard Line Movie will be pursued by John B. as a recruiting tactic.  He will look into licensing fees and research if this will be a conflict with Leo Club acitivies.
  • Refrigerator Magnets and Pens were presented by Heather and will be available for purchase along with clothing.
  • Guitar Hero Tournament will be headed up by Robbie Carroll, vocal music student, according to Heather.
  • Visitourmall.com. Please checkout “visitourmall.com” for convenient online shopping. A percentage of every purchase made through this website is deposited into the Music Boosters account. Simply go to “visitourmall.com”, click “Find Group”, scroll to and click on “Century High School Music Boosters”, and start shopping! Or visit the mall through the Century Knights home webpage at knightsmusic.org.
  • GoodSearch.com. This is a Yahoo-based search engine and earns the music boosters .01 for every valid search. Click on “Century High School Music Boosters (Sykesville, MD)” to designate CHS as the organization to receive credit. Keep on searching!
  • eScrip. By using loyalty club cards (i.e. Safeway Club Card), credit cards (i.e., Macy’s credit card or Macy’s Visa card), and debit cards that have been registered with eScrip. There is a 6-step process to register any cards you feel comfortable registering with the program. Please register

               your cards at www.escrip.com. A group ID number or name must be entered in step 1 of the                                                                                                   registration. Our information is: GROUP ID # 148958018 or use the group name CENTURY MUSIC BOOSTERS INC. This is a very simple way to raise money for the CHS music program! This fundraiser has the possibility of ongoing success but needs to be better promoted.

 

Liaison Report 

  • Choral-Dawn- Eisteddfod, all-county chorus, will be held on Friday, March 27th at 7:30 at Westminster High School.  Several Century students will be participating.  Festival Chorus will be performing April 10th at North Carroll High.
  • Band/Orchestra-Marty not present. Adjudication for these groups will occur on March 17th at Westminster High School.  Derrick is looking for chaperones to help.  There is still an opening for an orchestra liasionJ Tony will contact Laura Moses to see if she might be interested.
  •  Spring Concert will be held on April 30 for Orchestra and Chorus and May 7 for Bands.
  • Marching Band-Jim Kelly not present
  • Lori Cady has agreed to take over for Teri as co-historian next year. 
  • The current historical CD for Knights Music will be shown at the beginning of next month’s Booster meeting.
  • Donna Pieciak has agreed to help with this year’s audit.

 

President’s Business and Comments

  • Tony headed a discussion regarding last year’s salaries for marching band personnel.  Since the home events were profitable, should staff be offered bonuses?  $1100 could be spread between Ian Burns, Mike Grapes, Nichole Nazelrod and Danielle Materra. Sharron made a motion to approve the bonuses and Dawn seconded. 
  • Rob and Ian split conductor duties for the Spring Musical.  Two checks in the amount of $500 each need to be cut.
  • There has been no contribution for Conductor fees from the Drama Boosters to date.  The $1000 Conductor fee was to be split evenly between the Music Boosters and the Drama Boosters.
  • John will talk to Marty about this year’s Music Scholarships.
  • John will run next month’s meeting in Tony’s absence.

 

Next Meeting

  • Will be held April 2nd at 7:30.

  • Scott motioned to adjourn at 8:30pm and Sharron seconded.
