Treasurer’s Report

  • Debbie Ruark presented the budget. The current Music Booster’s checking account balance is approximately $9,200 less than the beginning balance on 6/10/06 due to several unsuccessful fundraising efforts. However, several successful fundraisers this year were earmarked for continuation next year. The treasurer’s report does not include any interim transactions from the Vera Bradley Bingo or the Notebook Raffle. The budget was motioned to be approved by Cindy Lewis and seconded by Michelle Harrod.

Music Director’s Report/Choral Director’s Report

  • Derrick Askew was not present at the meeting.
  • Allison Holiday was not present at the meeting.

Ways and Means Committee

  • Vera Bradley “Bag” Bingo.  May 12th in the CHS cafeteria. Ticket sales are going well. It is expected to be a sell-out event. There are currently 16 adult volunteers in addition to numerous student volunteers. Sponsors of bags and fillers are sending in their donations. This is expected to be a profitable fund raiser.
  • GL Scrip card program. POC is Suzanne Reamer. A list of all participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com. Suzanne’s e-mail is suzo@dellmail.com. The GL Scrip card program has brought in over $1,600 since June of 2006.
  • Escrip program.  The Escrip program has brought in over $2400 in 2006-2007.  Please register your Safeway Bonus card with Safeway to participate. A volunteer to coordinate this effort is needed.
  • Pizza Hut “Knights”.  Future Pizza Hut “knights” scheduled: The last night for this school year is scheduled for May 23rd.  Mention Century HS Music Program and 20% of the total order will be given to Century Music Boosters. This applies to dine-in and carry-out orders.
  • Raffle. Music program students are selling raffle tickets for an ACER notebook computer during all lunch mods. The drawing will be held on June 1st during the Century morning announcements. There are still tickets available.
  • Visitourmall.com. Please checkout “visitourmall.com” for convenient online shopping. A percentage of every purchase made through this website is deposited into the Music Boosters account. Simply go to “visitourmall.com”, click “Find Group”, scroll to and click on “Century High School Music Boosters”, and start shopping! Or visit the mall through the Century Knights home webpage at knightsmusic.tk.
  • Banners. The Carroll Count Board of Education has recently developed guidelines regarding the sale and use of banners in CCPS. Suzanne volunteered to check into the specifics. Tony will contact Mr. Cockley to verify that the Music Boosters will continue with sole rights to banner sales at Century.

2007 Graduates

  • Senior Farewell Banquet. June 5th at 6:30 in the CHS cafeteria. This banquet is open to everyone in the music program, but awards are reserved for senior recognition. Specifics are forthcoming. It was suggested that there be a flat rate for the banquet which was motioned to be accepted by Danny and seconded by Cindy.

  • Scholarships. The Music Boosters will award three $500 scholarships. An anonymous selection committee is working with Jim Kelley. The scholarship awards will be presented by Tony at the June 7th Senior Ceremony at CHS.

  • Graduation Ceremony. Several underclass band members will be playing at the 2007 CHS Graduation Ceremony at McDaniel College. Underclass parents will be needed to help with loading/unloading of instruments on June 9th.

  • Scroll Publication. We will check to see if there is still time to list all graduating music program seniors in the school newspaper “The Scroll”. Tony motioned to accept and Nancy seconded.

New York Trip

  • Nancy Thompson reported that the New York trip was wonderful and that the adjudication went very well. All participants were flexible and worked together to make this trip a success.

Music Boosters Board Vacancies

  • Tony presented the vacant positions to the attendees; Treasurer and Ways & Means Co-Chair. Michelle Harrod expressed interest in talking with Debbie about the treasurer position and Maureen Stewart will meet with Suzanne about the Ways & Means position.

Marching Band

  • Fund Raising. Students are being encouraged to be more involved in fund raising efforts such as carwashes, et cetera.
  • Sponsored Shows. Tournament of Bands (TOB) is scheduled for September 29th.  USSBA is scheduled for October 20th.  The TOB Chapters location is to be determined; however, Century has hosted this event in the past and is hopeful that our site will be chosen. There is potential for three home shows this coming fall. Everyone’s participation will be needed for these events to be successful. Jim Kelley has volunteered to continue as Show Coordinator for the upcoming 2007-2008 season.

General Suggestions.

  • An open discussion was held regarding the organization of several committees or possibly grouping volunteers by music affiliation. The new committees could include 1) Membership Committee to handle recruiting of incoming 9th grade students to possibly be run by current 9th grade parents. 2) Social Committee to organize various banquets and picnics, etc. Nancy Thompson volunteered to chair this committee. The second option presented by Danny consisted of grouping volunteers by musical affiliation, such as a coordinator from orchestra, symphonic band, wind ensemble, chorus, marching band, etc.

Adjournment

  • Cindy Lewis motioned to adjourn at 9:06 p.m. and Tony Caracciolo seconded.

Next Booster Meeting

  • May 31, 2007 at 7:30 in the band room or media center.

Respectfully submitted,
