Call to Order

  • The Music Boosters meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Tony Caracciolo.

Secretary’s Report

  • Susan Stephey presented a summary of last month’s Music Boosters Meeting Minutes. The minutes were motioned to be approved by Pam Jacobs and seconded by Cheryl Benitez.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Scott Stewart presented the budget. The original budget projects are continually being updated to accommodate the year’s actual expenditures.
  • The CD at Susquehanna Bank held by the booster organization is currently valued at approximately $6,000. It is estimated that the cost for new uniforms in 2013 is $12,000. Tony and Scott met with a Susquehanna Bank financial planner to investigate options available to optimize the Music Boosters savings.  Scott and Tony propose transferring the money into multiple mutual fund accounts or some type of account with a higher return. They also recommend monthly deposits into the fund versus an annual deposit to optimize the dollar cost averaging. The funds will need to be revisited on an annual basis for reallocation if necessary. They plan to meet with other financial planners and will compare the proposed plans. Additionally, Heather Caporaso will check with the CCPS financial planner for ideas. Motion to accept a change of account type made by Marty M. and seconded by Cheryl B. Tony & Scott will present their findings at the next meeting.

Music Director’s Report

  • Derrick Askew briefly addressed the group and stated that the marching band season is in full swing. The possibility of a trip this year is in the idea stage – there are no details yet. The marching band will continue to perform at home football games as the CHS Pep Band.

Choral Director’s Report

  • Heather Caporaso addressed the group. She has two choir classes this year and is very excited about the music planned for this year. She holds rehearsal every Wednesday after school. Parents are always welcome to stop by. Students not in a formal choral class are encouraged and welcome to join the after-school Wednesday rehearsals. Heather & Derrick plan to visit the feeder elementary and middle schools to promote the music program.

Ways and Means Committee

  • Banners.  Marty M. reported that two sales have been made to date. One for $500 and one for $1000. Volunteers are needed to do follow-up phone calls. The deadline for this year’s banners is approaching. Please contact Marty for a list of (10 or fewer) businesses you would be willing to contact as a follow-up to the original mailings. mmankowski@ffres.com
  • GL Scrip card program. POC is Mary Laulis. A list of all participating businesses is available at www.glscrip.com. Mary can be reached at mlaulis@verizon.net. The first GL Scrip order was placed and received. Orders will be placed the last Wednesday of every month so that cards may be distributed at the following Thursday Booster meeting.  It is very easy to place an online order and use PrestoPay (which deducts the card total from your checking account. There is a $0.39 charge to use PrestoPay.) Otherwise, simply order online using our code: LF7L317611982 and put a check made out to CHS Music Boosters in the band room box for your total.
  • Clothing Sales. The Freshman Orientation & Meet the Teacher sales brought in just over $2,300.
  • Visitourmall.com. Please checkout “visitourmall.com” for convenient online shopping. A percentage of every purchase made through this website is deposited into the Music Boosters account. Some of the stores participating include Old Navy, Staples, iTunes, Macy’s, Circuit City, Amazon.com, WalMart, et cetera. Simply go to “visitourmall.com”, click “Find Group”, scroll to and click on “Century High School Music Boosters”, and start shopping!
  • Board Game Night. Dawn L. is working on a board game night where we can sell popular board games for profit. She is looking at some time before Thanksgiving. She will check the school calendar for availability, obtain more information from the board game representative and check into how and where we can advertise the night. She will report next month.
  • Cookbooks.  Judy B. proposed a fundraiser where we can prepare cookbooks for $4 - $6 and sell for $15 - $17. Christine Fallon & Heather C. volunteered to work with Judy on this.
  • If anyone has any ideas for a potential fundraiser, please email Judy @ jlbushey69@msn.

There will be an orchestra for this year’s musical. Tony agreed to split the cost for the conductor with the Drama Booster organization. Each organization will pay $500.00.

Adjournment

  • Tony C. motioned to end the meeting at 8:30 p.m. and Heather C. seconded.

Next Booster Meeting

  • October 2 at 7:30 in the choral room.

Respectfully submitted,

Susan Stephey
